Vermont's oldest chartered community museum, on Park Street in downtown Middlebury — collections of Vermont decorative arts, furniture, portraits, textiles, and everyday objects going back to the 1700s. Strong children's programming and rotating exhibits. An excellent rainy-day destination and one of the genuinely good small history museums in New England.
A working horse farm in Weybridge operated by the University of Vermont, breeding and training Morgan horses on land that's been in continuous agricultural use since the 1800s. Tours available in summer — you walk through the barns, see the horses up close, and learn about the Morgan breed that originated in Vermont. Kids love it. The setting, with views of the Green Mountains, is genuinely beautiful.
Over 1,500 candy varieties, handmade chocolate made on site, and an official LEGO retail section — this Route 7 shop earns its claim as Vermont's largest candy store. Sugar-free options, maple gifts, and small toys round it out, and there are now escape rooms on the premises (Midd Escape Rooms) if the kids need more than sugar. Open daily year-round; summer hours drop Tuesdays and run a little later the rest of the week.
